I purchased this set really wanting the white one, but I absolutely love the way the black one make my pics look! They're the perfect size for my photo area and I'm so happy I decided to purchase them.
How easy it is to control light for product shots with these handy v-flats in the table top size. With a large window in the studio it is essential to be able to direct light towards or block light from my sets. These are fantastic!
I bought the bi-fold mini set about six months ago and it kind of just sat there. I'd take it out and look at it for a while, shake my head about how upset I was about the purchase, and then tuck it back in the organizer. Don't get me wrong--I do know the value and use of V-Flats. As soon as I heard about this company and their product, I was on board and got a set of the large flats right away. But the minis vexed me; I shoot portraits, not products, and the size was just weird for what I had in mind. So, I wrote them off as very expensive flags (considering you can buy foam board that size at a hobby store).
Today, I was tooling around in my experimental studio flagging a specular highlight on my background, and I decided to get at least some use out of my mini. I got the result I wanted, but then just decided to set it next to my mannequin's head to push the shadows on her cheek. I held it awkwardly and it folded in the crease... and at that moment, I realized I could fold it at a 45° angle and push the maximum amount of shadow onto the side of the face/cheek AND the jawline/chin. That's a pretty big deal if you want to be able to control the shadows on the face precisely.
The only issue I have with them is the packaging. My set arrived bent on the corner because it was shipped in a flimsy plastic bubble-wrap pouch. But I'm enough that I'm buying another set of bi-fold minis right after this review. I just hope the packaging has been changed for this upcoming order.
