InStudio: 3 High Fashion Photography Looks | Niah Aldrich
All the way in from Kansas City, talented portrait photographer Niah Alrich joins us for a high fashion photoshoot packed with a ton of creativity and color. Watch as Niah brings three beautiful and unique fashion looks to life using two different rooms in Jersey City's Grayscale Studios. The results will blow you away!
Look 1: The Green & Black Color Block
For the first look, Niah went for a striking combination of green and black. The model donned a green blazer with black accents, which Niah used as the foundation for the entire setup. She selected an olive Savage backdrop paired with black Savage paper at the bottom to create a bold, color-blocked background.
To enhance the model’s presence, Niah used the black side of the V-Flats. This setup not only highlighted the green and black tones but also allowed the model’s skin to stand out, making her the focal point of the image. The use of V-Flats here was key in maintaining a balanced yet striking composition, pulling all elements together seamlessly.
Look 2: The Vibrant Pop of Color
Known for her love of color, Niah couldn’t resist going all out for her second look. She chose a vibrant hot pink backdrop that immediately grabs attention. The model’s outfit was equally bold, featuring bright, contrasting shades that played off the backdrop.
Niah added orange and pink eyeshadow, along with a pink lip, to tie the entire look together, ensuring that every element contributed to the model’s radiant appearance. For lighting, she used a white beauty dish paired with a white V-Flat to fill in shadows under the model’s chin. This setup created a beautiful butterfly lighting effect, emphasizing the model’s features while keeping the colors vibrant and dynamic.
Look 3: The Subtle White & Blue Contrast
In the final look, Niah toned down the vibrancy but didn’t shy away from using color to make a statement. The model wore a white top, which Niah contrasted with a subtle yet eye-catching pop of blue. The backdrop was created using a V-Flat, with natural sunlight streaming through the windows, adding texture and depth to the image.
The white V-Flat not only served as a backdrop but also acted as a fill, softening shadows and pulling the look together. The blue accents, subtle but deliberate, added just the right amount of color without overpowering the clean, minimalist vibe.
High Fashion Photography: Pro Tip
A way that I make models feel very comfortable in front of the camera is by being totally crazy and fun. If you can get them to laugh, smile, loosen up, and move, and make them feel like, "Okay, I'm being crazy; I'm being myself," then the expressions and connection you're going to have with the model, especially in the camera, is going to be so much better because they're comfortable, they're having fun, and they feel like they can be themselves.
Niah’s ability to blend creativity with technical expertise shines through in each of these looks. By using V-Flats in innovative ways, she created diverse and visually striking images, each telling its own story. Whether it’s bold color blocking, vibrant contrasts, or subtle sophistication, Niah’s vision transformed these high-fashion moments into art.
