Street Studio: Midtown Madness, NYC | Ep 9 | Tuvy Lemberg
In the 9th episode of Street Studio, Tuvy Lemberg takes to the streets of New York City with a camera in hand and a mission to photograph everyday people. He’s not working with professional models, fancy studios, or even pre-planned shoots – as always with Street Studio, everything about this episode is raw, real, and spontaneous.
As Tuvy moves through the city, he keeps an eye out for anyone with a unique style or captivating energy. He approaches with a friendly smile, strikes up a conversation, and asks if they’d be interested in a quick portrait. The whole process is fast, casual, and unplanned, which adds to the charm of the series. One of the best moments comes early in the episode when Tuvy stops a woman who’s chatting on the phone with her mother. Even in the middle of her call, she’s cool with being photographed – now that's New York energy! And let's not ignore the fact that photographer and model are matching!
Iconic Backdrops and Holiday Vibes
Tuvy takes us to the heart of the city, in the Rockefeller Center/Fifth Avenue area, surrounded by holiday lights and decorations. The streets are buzzing with activity – locals and tourists alike are out enjoying the festive atmosphere, and Tuvy seizes the moment to grab a few shots. From people wearing cozy winter sweaters to holiday shoppers bustling by, the backdrop helps Tuvy capture New York in its full seasonal glory.
One of his favorite spots is Saks Fifth Avenue, where the lights and decor make for vibrant, dynamic backgrounds that contrast beautifully with the everyday New Yorkers he captures.
Another key moment comes as Tuvy heads toward St. Patrick's Cathedral, one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks. The stunning architecture of the cathedral becomes the perfect setting for a portrait. To make the images pop, he also introduces a V-Flat for some added fill light, helping to balance out the shadows and keep the contrast under control.
Wrapping Up
With each portrait, Tuvy brings out the individuality of his subjects while celebrating the spontaneity and diversity of the city that never sleeps. As always, Tuvy credits his partners at Adorama for helping make it all possible, and he looks forward to many more adventures on the streets of New York.
